Benjamin Cheney was born, raised, and lives in the small town of Montpelier Vermont. Benjamin has a bachelors degree from Evergreen State College in Olympia Washington, where he studied art and literature. He has been continuously employed crafting the built environment form the age of 12. In 2003 he interned at the Yestermorrow Design build school where he has Since directed and taught in a 12 week wood working class, instructed Yestermarrow's sustainable design build, and is now on the board of Directors. Building well designed spaces and objects that are well crafted, sturdy, inherently beautiful and nice to touch are goals of construct.
The furniture of Construct custom wood and metal work, combines the beauty and warmth of wood and the strength and industry of steel. Ben’s deep roots in the state of Vermont allow him access to the origin of each tree and a face-to-face conversation with those that fell and milled the trees, thus guaranteeing the sustainability of each piece. Much of the steel used are drops from large building projects. This material is chosen for 2 reasons; diversion from the waste stream as well a the aesthetic choice of scaling industry to furniture. Each piece is personally designed and crafted making it original to construct and you.
