The Vermont Wind Assessment Program is run by Vermont Technical College with the mission of providing site assessment for small-scale and community-scale wind power systems.
The program originated in July 2005 as the Vermont Anemometer Loan program with the mission of loaning wind metrology equipment to farms, businesses, and residents who were considering the installation of wind systems on their property. In 2009 the mission shifted to focus the equipment loan service on community-scale wind power sites where the potential for installing a wind system with a rated capacity of greater than 50 kW is being considered. We still encourage inquiries from farms and residents considering smaller wind systems (10 kW or less) and we are developing an assessment protocol using wind map data and ground conditions to estimate potential wind system performance at these sites. In either case, applicants are encouraged to submit an inquiry form as the initial step.
The program is funded through the State of Vermont Department of Public Service and the Clean Energy Development Fund.
