Well I decided to build a Kayak. I bought a book on it by Ted Moores. It looks like a lot more detailed work and I was up for the challenge. I had to make all my own patterns for the kayak. When I made the canoe, I borrowed a set from my old canoe class teacher. I made the patters out of 3/4" plywood, and the strongback is made of two 16' 2x6's. Again I'm using Easter White Ceder. The lumber came from Goodridge Lumber over in Albany Vermont. If you call them, ask for Colleen. She was very nice to me, and threw in quite a few extra boards.
The kayak is taking me a lot more time. I'm a very busy person. I'm also building it without using staples. This will eliminate all the little staple holes and provide a cleaner look. This means I have to use a lot of clamps, and special homemade jigs. It also means I can only do one strip at a time. I've decided to add a simple design to it as well. I'm using mahogany strips for some contrast. All my pictures are below. They aren't too recent. I'm actually almost done the entire bottom of the kayak.
