Muggle Quidditch is based on the game played in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. Muggle Quidditch was created by students at Middlebury College in 2005 and since then the game has spread worldwide to over 40 different countries. The first World Cup was held at Middlebury in 2007 with just two teams. Quidditch has grown larger and more sophisticated over the last six years and as of the most recent World Cup in 2013, there were more teams wanting to participate then the association was able to accommodate. Therefore, there are now regionals held for Quidditch teams to compete for a limited number of available spots.
In July of 2012, the IQA hosted the Olympic Expo Games at Oxford, United Kingdom. There were teams representing the United States, Canada, Australia, France, and the United Kingdom.
Quidditch is made up of two teams of seven players. The object of the game is to be the team with the most points after the snitch is caught.
