The VTC rock climbing club was established in the summer of 2001 by Jeff Wilson and Stephen Gagnon. In the club's first year of existance it grew to over 20 members, and that number has stayed fairly constant since then. Our goal is to climb 3 days a week with the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center in Rutland, VT. Some outdoor trips have been planned. We have had one outdoor trip so far this year, and one caving trip as well. Climbing members have participated, but the events were not directly climbing club related. Our proposal for a climbing wall to be built at VTC has been accepted by the student government and the administration at VTC. The climbing wall is in the process of being planned for a location on campus. Construction is anticipated for spring or summer of 2003.
Climbing is a healthy way to exercise, build confidence and team building skills, and also helps students to get out of their rooms and meet new people. Rock climbing is a very fun and enjoyable sport for many people at VTC, but remember that school does come first, climb responsibly.
