What about the counselors? How did they interact with the everyone? What
was the good and what was the bad overall of the counselors? Although I
wasn't able to interact with all of the counselors, the ones that I was
able to interact with were pretty cool. What I liked was that at this camp
the counselors weren't that much older then us. My group counselor was
almost 20 years old. Some people might think that is old, but really being
20 isn't. Having the counselors in their 20's meant that they still remembered
being our age and that gave us a little leeway. Sure they had us follow
the rules but they weren't always like " Don't do that... don't do this.".
They were also able to remember the days when they went to camp and were
homesick or bored. They could relate to how we were feeling which helped
a lot of people.
I will
admit that I wish that more of the counselors had more humor. I think that
a lot of people were looking for the humor within their counselor. Sometimes
it felt that when they were around us they couldn't laugh. Don't get me
wrong all of the counselors were like cool and whatever, but it would have
been even better if some of them laid back a little more. It was almost
like they were nervous that something was going to go wrong. One of the
things I noticed was that the younger counselors were the ones that were
nervous. (To all of the counselors out there who read this, you can lay
back when teenage girls are around, you can have fun with us).
To get
back to all of the good qualities of the counselors (and trust me there
are many). I liked the fact that they participated in all that we did,
and it seemed like for the most part they had fun while doing so. When
they were in our workshops with us, I think that I felt that they were
more involved with us, and I think that most of them didn't mind spending
their summer with a bunch of teenage girls taking workshops. It was cool
to have the counselors be there and be bored with us, build with us, and
laugh with us.
I will give credit to the counselors, I honestly don't know if I could
be responsible for so many girls. That's probably the reason that some
counselors were nervous. They gave up part of their summer to be here,
which I will hand to them is very generous. If we didn't have counselors
then we wouldn't have the camp. I would like to thank the counselors for
being here, because if they weren't here then we wouldn't be here either.
It's probably not the best job, but if they're here it can't be the worst
job either. The counselors had there good sides and their bad sides,
just like the dorms, or the food, or just people in general. However, I
think that most people will agree that the good side of the counselors
shined through all the way.
