AutoCAD 2D-Modeling

Due at the end of our First meeting in Week 4

Background:

Even though parametric solid modelers like Inventor, Solid Works and Solid Edge leave AutoCAD in the dust for most mechanical design, its still important to appreciate what AutoCAD can do and to understand its limitations.

Conditions:

        You will be assigned 1 isometric drawing from each of sets one and two.

        Use the scales on the sheets to determine general proportions.

        Each linetype will occupy its own layer. You may draw all on 1 layer and move the lines to the appropriate layer or you may change layers on the fly.

        In a later Assignment you will make a complete working drawing of the object.

Objectives:

        Make a yourname folder in V:/MEC/1011/Fall_10/Assignment5/TX.

        Create and use the following layers (each with a distinct color):

        Run AutoCAD 2011 and use the fold method to construct 3 orthographic views of each of two isometric parts. Set the polar snap to 45 and use OTrack to project your geometry where possible.

        Nothing should remain on the 0 layer when you are done.

Notes:

Well talk about layers as well as osnaps (object snaps), polar snaps, direct distance entry, and otrack (object snap tracking)

Challenge:

Construct views of an object that would be faster to model in 2D AutoCAD than SolidWorks (like a car).
